From the Herald Tribune

More than 400 volunteers spent a recent Saturday morning at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota gymnasium wrapping gift baskets for children and families in the Sarasota-Manatee region.

The Tiny Hands Foundation’s 14th Annual Holiday Basket Brigade made sure that more than 1,000 needy families received toys, treats and
healthy food for Christmas.

“There’s no greater feeling than to see people come together selflessly to help other people, expecting nothing in return,” said Rod Khleif, a Sarasota-based philanthropist who started the foundation.

The foundation is not active just at Christmas. It also operates the Teddy Bear Brigade, which provides police officers with teddy bears to comfort children, and the Back-to-School Backpack Brigade, which provides children with backpacks filled with school supplies.

Because he inspires others to help the less fortunate, the Herald-Tribune honors Khleif as its Person of the Week.
